5 signs your TV binge-watching habit is out of control
5 signs your TV marathon watching propensity is crazy 5 signs your TV marathon watching propensity is crazy Marathon watching TV is basically the best thing ever. You find a show you love, and you tumble down the hare opening, appreciating it for a considerable length of time upon hours, until you've completed the arrangement and are prepared to locate your next fixation. Spilling stages have offered us a place of refuge away from the stresses of day by day life -a spot where we can without much of a stretch nestle up anyplace, whenever and enjoy some great, careless fun. But, similar to any beneficial thing, gorge watching can go excessively far. Whenever we have the word 'gorge' in a sentence, we should stop, regardless of whether we're talking pizza, new shoes, wine, or TV, alerts clinical therapist and Innovation360 clinical director Dr. Kevin Gilliland. Like all the things in that sentence, there is nothing amiss with sitting in front of the TV⦠however everything with some restraint! Gilliland has distinguished five side effects that your TV propensity has spiraled only somewhat wil d, so you can be keeping watch for these signs in your own life. On the off chance that they sound natural, it might be an ideal opportunity to begin a purposeful break from your present gushing addiction.1. You're not resting as much as you need toSome of your best gorging occurs in the hours between when you return home from work and when you head to sleep, and those meetings have been broadening longer and longer into the night. You get so made up for lost time in your present show that you regularly end up pushing back your standard sleep time to take into account a couple of more eps, or in any event, nodding off on the lounge chair and hauling yourself to bed well after 12 PM. What's more, you wonder why you're depleted during the day! In the event that you feel strangely drained, it merits inspecting the sorts of hours you've been keeping and assessing whether your new TV fixation is responsible.2. Your eating routine has changedYou're so anxious to begin watching your show w hen you return home that you can't force yourself to cook. Rather, you put in a request for take-out or settle for a supper of tidbits. This is thoroughly fine at times - life is progressively fun when you can have snacks for supper now and again! - yet in the event that it's turning into a propensity, you may need to inquire as to whether TV gorging is at fault. An exceptional change to your schedules means that there might be a touch of an issue at hand.3. You're less dynamic than usual. When you contrast your action level with a year prior, how has it changed? Gilliland inquires. Has your time gone to your TV? Our bodies are intended to move. No one's recommending that you run eight miles every day, except in case you're normally doing without previous physical action to cause time to consume another show on Netflix or Hulu, things may have gone excessively far. (In case you're searching for inspiration to get to the exercise center this winter, possibly viewing your fave when you 're on your cardio machine of decision can be an incredible motivation to drag yourself out the door.)4. You're hesitant to come up with other plansYou're fulfilling reasons to skip hour with your associates, spend on week by week informal breakfast, leave companions' birthday celebrations early⦠all since you can hardly wait to return to your lounge chair and remote. Not a decent sign! At the point when we begin to pick TV over getting things done with companions, it can end with us feeling segregated and disengaged, Gilliland lets us know. That is awful for humans.5. You're dodging peopleYour BFF has just completed the arrangement you're gorging, and you're so focused on keeping away from spoilers that you wind up talking with them not exactly regular. You're likewise continually needing the calm of your own loft and your own TV. Everybody needs - and is qualified for - their alone time, yet in case you're effectively deciding to be distant from everyone else more than would com monly be agreeable for you, it may be the ideal opportunity for you to go without any weaning period on gushing until the parity has returned to normal. This article was initially distributed on Brit + Co.

Why Asking to Be Hired Is a Great Job Search Strategy
Why Asking to Be Hired Is a Great Job Search Strategy Imagine if getting a job was as simple as walking into an office and asking to be hired. How much easier would your life be? Well, right now that might be one of the best ways to land a job at your dream organization. A new survey from CareerBuilder found 50 percent of companies have open positions they canât find qualified candidates for. That means thereâs a good chance great organizations are waiting for you to come work for them. Why not take the first step and reach out to companies youâre interested in? Let me preface this by saying you shouldnât go walking down the street with your resume and go into an office and demand to talk to a hiring manager. Youâll need to do some research beforehand, about the company and who might manage the department youâre interested in, etc. Even then, you should politely reach out and ask to meet with the manager. But that comes later. Today letâs talk about why this strategy works and is worth your while. Companies take down long-vacant job ads Great news for #jobseekers: 50% of companies have jobs they canât fill. Click To Tweet Even though many companies constantly have open roles, employers have a reputation to maintain. They want job seekers to think they are a great place to work and people are lining up to get a job. When a job posting has been online for months, job seekers notice, and even if theyâre not interested in that particular role, they begin to wonder why no one else is interested. Job seekers are likely to think itâs a bad place to work and when a relevant job does open up, they wonât apply. To avoid this situation, many companies remove job postings when theyâve become stagnant. Of course, the position is still open and they actively look for job seekers, but they canât afford to hurt their employer brand. When you go into an organization and ask about their open jobs, employers will be over the moon. Finally, they have access to talent that is interested in the company. Theyâll be glad to talk to you about what opportunities they have. Just be sure to do your research about a company before setting up a meeting. There very well could be a reason besides a lack of job seekers why the job has been empty for so long. Look up employee reviews on sites like Glassdoor and see what the work environment is like. Job descriptions arenât cut-and-dry anymore In the past, it was easy to write a job description because it was very apparent what each person did within the organization. But over time, the way teams work evolved. People from different departments started collaborating more, and as a result, the lines blurred about who did what. Itâs not uncommon for marketers to need sales experience or for software engineers to need to understand customer service. So while employees and by extension their jobs have developed diverse skill sets, job descriptions havenât kept up. They are still written as if the companyâs team is siloed and has clearly defined roles, which makes it difficult to find job seekers who are genuinely a good fit. Meeting with managers or HR employees at a company lets you have a conversation outside job descriptions. You talk about your experiences and skills and they start to imagine a way you can fit into the team. They might even create an entirely new position for you. Have a conversation with hiring managers outside the constraints of job descriptions. #careeradvice Click To Tweet It makes an impression Many hiring managers forget what was in a resume 15 minutes after they read it. Unless they decide to move forward with the candidate, they never think about them again. The perfect position could open up a week later, and it wouldnât occur to the hiring manager to reach out to the candidate they âmetâ seven days ago. However, after sitting down with you, seeing your face, and having a conversation, a hiring manager is more likely to remember you. Youâve created a connection and the foundations of a relationship. And the hiring manager knows youâre looking for work so when they do have a position that fits, they can contact you. Be clear about what you love about the organization when youâre talking to the hiring manager. This will show youâre actually interested and not just someone who goes around to random companies asking for work. Thinking about applying for a job youâre not qualified for? Find out how to do that here!

Cover Letters Do Matter
Introductory Letters Do Matter Andrew Lamberson doesn't work for The New York Times Magazine in Brooklyn. What's more, his introductory letter didn't find him a line of work. So what's the point here? All things considered, Andrew consistently accepted that introductory letters were basically pointlessâ"thus he composed exhausting introductory letter in the wake of exhausting introductory letter for occupations that he didn't getâ"and wasn't too intrigued by in any case. At that point he saw a posting on Facebook for NYTM, a distribution that he adored and read strictly. He chose to get somewhat insaneâ"nothing wandered, nothing increased, isn't that so? He truly needed the activity, and he needed to figure out how to persuade the head photograph editorial manager, Kathy Ryan, that he was actually the correct individual for their photograph division. Lamberson picked a photograph that truly addressed himâ"a picture that picture taker Eugene Richards took of Joan Didion. He sent Ryan a letter disclosing to her how the picture had influenced him, and how Didion's character truly came through in the photograph. He discussed how the photograph had turned on its edge all that he'd found out about photography in school and had given him a completely new viewpoint. At that point he communicated his craving to contributeâ"and his conviction that he could. Lamberson buckled down on his introductory letterâ"and even had a duplicate editorial manager look it over. He didn't stress excessively a lot over his resume, depending on the introductory letter to accomplish the work for him. At that point, something stunning occurred! Inside only an hour of getting Lamberson's letter and resume, Ryan reacted; she welcomed him to come in for a meeting. In case you're anticipating an absolutely cheerful closure, you won't see that here. Lamberson didn't land the position; in light of the fact that, in the last investigation, he needed more magazine experience. His introductory letter got him a meeting, not a vocation. In any case, consider thisâ"he got the meeting. Also, when he has enough understanding, you can wager that Ryan will recollect him. Ryan revealed to Lamberson that out of the considerable number of candidates for the position (and there were a large number of), his introductory letter was the best, and she requested that he stay in contact. All in all, what have we gained from this? Introductory letters matter regardless of whether you don't promptly land the position. Appropriately done, they DO get you took note. The activity probably won't occur today, however a heavenly introductory letter can get you saw and get you on record. Never abandon your fantasies. Think beyond practical boundaries. Your fantasies probably won't be acknowledged quickly, yet not far off, who realizes what could occur? Never expect that a vocation is far off. Do as well as can possibly be expected, and the activity that you don't get today could in all likelihood be yours tomorrow.

Stategies to change a boring resume
Stategies to change a boring resume The concept of writing a resume for many job seekers is creating a document that lists important skills, education and accomplishments that show theyre qualified for a specific job theyre applying for. While this concept is somewhat true, the resume-writing process is a bit more complicated than this. Writing a quality resume goes beyond simply listing qualifications. You need to describe why youre right for the job through your use of specific examples, so if you accidentally create what looks like a laundry list of job descriptions, skills and more, your resume is probably pretty boring. Here are some tips to avoid creating this type of laundry list resume. Showcase Your Leadership Qualities It is quite common for job seekers to list duties completed in old positions when writing their resume by starting their sentences with the words Duties included, or Responsibilities included. While taking this approach gives insight into what your former employers asked of you, youre not sharing what made you a leader in your positionsâ"what you accomplished that no one asked you to complete. To avoid simply listing your duties, consider incorporating action words like initiated, or developed. These words show that you created projects on your own and were able to lead them to completion. Focus on Achievements While its a good idea to show that you are able to manage daily tasks that a prospective employer might note in its job posting is an important requirement, its good to take your listed experience a step further by jotting down accomplishments within the daily tasks. For instance, if you were in charge of promoting events for a previous company, rather than listing that you promoted events, which is likely understood, consider mentioning one promoted event that exceeded everyones expectations and garnered a great deal of recognition. Quantify Your Results If you were in charge of routing upwards of 300 phone calls each day throughout your company as a receptionist, dont simply list in your resume answered phones. You want to quantify all of the projects you took on from making copies to filing papers. The more details you give of projects completed in your resume, the easier it will be for hiring managers to visualize you doing the same for them. Remember to Tailor Your Resume Sometimes its easy to fall into the laundry list trap when you take the carbon-copy approach to writing a resume, meaning that you simply replace old information submitted to one company with new information to be submitted to the next company. By really looking at the requirements each company writes in their job postings then choosing details from your professional history to prove you are right for the job, you could easily avoid creating simple lists in your resume. A laundry list resume is very often a turn off for hiring managers because they lack impressive details. So take time to consciously write effective resumes that intrigue hiring managers enough to consider hiring you. For additional job search and resume writing advice follow us on Twitter @GreatResume

5 Things NOT to Do in an Interview
5 Things NOT to Do in an Interview Given we do a lot of work helping individuals prepare for their interviews, we get asked a lot about interview technique and how to go about acing an interview. Here are a few tips to help you along your way. This is what you should avoid doing in an interview so as not to damage your chances of success 1) Being too dominant: In every conversation there tends to be a âleaderâ. The leader can change as you move through a conversation or interview. Make sure that you arenât the one leading the whole time. You donât want to come across too dominant or domineering as this will make the interviewer wonder how you will be with others you work with. People want collaboration and a âteamâ approach, so make sure that the conversation works both ways and isnât all led by you. 2) Clock watching: Have you ever been with someone who constantly clock watches? Isnât it annoying? Donât do it â" especially in an interview. Itâs distracting, annoying and rude to the interviewer. If youâre serious about the job you need to show it by giving it your full attention. 3) Being unprepared: If you turn up at an interview not knowing anything about the company or role you are going for, you will look stupid! Make sure that you have done your homework and know about what the company does, where itâs heading and what they are trying to do. You should know about the role you are going for and also about the people who are interviewing you. READ MORE: How To Best Prepare For Your Job Interview 4) Expressing irrelevant opinions: Going on about something that is completely irrelevant to your interview is counter-productive and a waste of time in an interview. You may not even realize that you are doing it because you get so excited about a certain topic â" but make sure that you become more alert to this problem. Some of us are easily distracted and can get wrapped up in a conversation if we have strong views on it and find it interesting. However, if itâs not relevant to the role or job youâre going after â" suck it up â" be quiet! 5. Not listening or responding to the questions: If you donât really listen to the questions, you wonât respond to them well or properly. Making sure that you put on your âlisteningâ cap as well as your âspeaking and get my opinions talents acrossâ cap. If you donât listen in your interview you are pretty much sunk! Easily Achieve the Smooth Sale - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Easily Achieve the Smooth Sale - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Certain practices are essential for building trust and likeability as you develop the sale. Patiently adhering to the correct process will ultimately get you to the end goal you hold dear. Not doing so, or implementing selective pieces of an overall strategy, and out of order, upsets the potential relationship. The poor practice diminishes the trust as well as any chance for securing the sale. The following story exemplifies what NOT to do. Upon reviewing a questionnaire meant to become familiar with personal history, it was appalling to find the inter-mixing of sales questions with case history questions. And it wasnât just the fact that sales questions were included. Even more disturbing was the manner in which the questions were presented. Erroneous assumptions were made including over-inflating expected current expense. This implied justification for purchase, but the fact were far off-base. The finality came when scare tactics were used, such as, âthis will occur if you donâtâ¦â The increased anger felt not only blocked the sale, but the thought of poor word of mouth branding could easily have taken place. Adding insult to injury, a blatant ask for the sale was made whereas this entire scenario should simply have been a case study form. Moral of the Story: The sale proved to be more important to the provider rather than establishing credibility and trust first. 5 steps achieve the Smooth Sale: 1. Become well acquainted on the first meeting By asking, What caught your interest to meet with me today? you get to the heart of the matter that opens up a meaningful dialogue. Allowing the prospective client to talk first, you capture ideas of which questions will be most appropriate. NOTE: Everyone has a unique DNA, so even if everyone appears to have the same problem, the approach needs to be customized for the individual or company. This is the number one step to begin building the trust. 2. Discuss all the associated problems Without offering your services just yet, and by drilling down on all of the problems first, you build a case for more of the services you have to offer. Without offering your opinion, simply ask Have you thought aboutâ¦? Get the reaction verbally and visually to have a fruitful discussion. 3. Ask a few more questions In your continued dialogue, find the persons preferences for solutions by sharing the possibilities of what you have to offer that may possibly resolve their problems. 4. Establish Time and Money Value The motivating factors are whether you can save enough time and money for the other person or company by providing your services. When the answer is âyesâ, the other party will be far more inclined to purchase from you. 5. Open the Door! Rather than close, ask, âwhen would you like to get started?â, or, âwhich day would you like me to start?â This puts the ball in the other personâs court, and an answer will be forthcoming. Sit tight with lip buttoned until you hear the answer. Most often it will be the right one! Following the orderly process, as well as building the relationship, trust, and personal brand, will lead you to the Smooth Sale!

If Youve Got Five Minutes... Make life easier
If Youve Got Five Minutes... Make life easier Yet another week gone by, sweet friends. Can you believe how time flies?! I wanted to start up a recurring post. I was inspired by Gretchen Rubins Happiness Project. Each month, Gretchen selects an area to focus on to bring more happiness into her life. My favorite part of the book was her discovery of the five minutes or less rule. This rule states, If you can do it in five minutes or less, you do it. Whether you pick an outfit for tomorrows girls night or reorganize some emails, your life will seem more in order after these little tweaks. The purpose of this endeavor is to help us all focus on, appreciate, and use the little free time we have each day. We can all strive to maximize our time, with little additional effort. It is truly the little things that can make or break a day. If you have five minutes this week: Keep the kitchen tidy. Wipe off the kitchen counters and put random dishes in the dish washer. Its as simple as that! See you next week.

12 things you should say during a job interview - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach
12 things you should say during a job interview Everything you say in a job interview counts, and thatâs one of the things that puts so much pressure on you when youâre in that hot seat. Even worse, you also need to impress your interviewers before and after the actual interview itself. This means that you need to plan ahead to make sure you know exactly what to say at each point in the process so that you can walk out afterwards with no regrets, confident that youâve made a good impression. Before the interview starts, youâve got the chance to express your enthusiasm for the role or the company as well as giving an elevator pitch where you sum up your experience in a sentence or two to really make a great first impression while youâre still in control of what you can talk about. During the interview, use active listening by asking clarifying questions to show that youâre paying attention. At the end of the interview, be sure to sum up again why you want the role and ask for their feedback on you as a candidate so that you know where you stand. Before you go, be sure to get in any last things you want to say, and donât forget to say thank you. The next time you go for an interview, try these tips out and see how much more confident you feel coming out.

How to answer the most common job interview question
How to answer the most common job interview question Question: How do I answer this interview question: Tell me about yourself? I struggle with that. Advice from Dana: I think you are in good company. Most people approach this in one of the following ways: Babble on and on, hoping to say one or two things that interest the interviewer(s). Do a résumé walk-through. This is incorrect because the interviewer didnt say, Walk me through your resume. Thats a different question. Stumble, hesitate and use too many filler words like umm, as if its the first time the question has ever been asked. Tell me about yourself is concurrently one of the most common interview prompts and one of the most poorly answered. This question, along with others such as, What are your strengths, what are your weaknesses, etc., should all be scripted well before the interview. I purposely wrote two chapters on interviews in my book, specifically on all of the things you can do long before an interview (and NOT the night before!). In the book I recommend writing out all of the most commonly asked questions and your short answers to them. How short is short? Apply the law of threes: Three bullet-point length phrases. Say three short sentences, and then stop talking. I repeat: three bullets, then shut up! So lets practice with, tell me about yourself. Heres a template for handling this one: First sentence: Your educational background Second sentence: Your work history Third sentence: Why you are making a career change and interviewing with them now. Lets put it into motion: I have a strong educational foundation with a bachelors of science in economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara and an MBA from UCLA. My sales and marketing work experience spans multiple industries. I spent seven years with IBM, 10 years with McKesson, and the most recently five years with Verizon. I am interested in expanding my career into international marketing and I am very interested in the global marketing role we are discussing today. After you make your three fabulous statements, stop talking, smile, and let the interviewer ask the next question. Here are the two most common fears people have with this recommendation: Im afraid Ill sound scripted. First, you wont. Second, that problem beats the opposite, which is sounding like you dont know your own background. It doesnt feel like enough. Trust that the interviewer will ask you for more if they want more. Often, they are simply looking for your ability to distill a lot of information into a compact summary. The Sugar Doll Award!
The Sugar Doll Award! I have to admit I am so super behind in my Award posts. Back in December I got the Sweet Thing Award from Maggie, all the way back in November I got the Sugar Doll Award from Melissa! Since I got the Sugar Doll Award first, Im posting my response now. Its 2 months late, but hopefully it still counts! Here are 10 Things About Me that I havent yet shared (since this is similar to my Honest Scrap Award my Kreativ Blogger Award) : 1. The only time Ive never had bangs was when I grew them out in 8th grade. This was also the time when I got a perm. A perm + no bangs = no date to the 8th grade dance. And no, you will not see a picture of me from that time. Unless Im dead. Until then, heres a cute pic of me with bangs when I was super little. 2. That pic of super-little me totally has a story behind it. My Mom swears that, when I was that super-little, she would spent hours (plural) filling up that kiddie pool with warm water from the kitchen sink (instead of cold water from the hose), transported in buckets or bowls or somesuch silliness. When the pool was finally full, I would get in it be happy as a clamfor 5 minutes. Then I lost interest got out. Every time. Its amazing she still puts up with me. 3. I was super tall as a kid so tall, in fact, that I was the tallest in my school in 5th grade never got to play Annie because of it (at least thats what I tell myself). I was told growing up by my doctor that, if I kept growing the way I was, Id be somewhere around 58. In 10th grade, I stopped growing just short of 56. I still refer to my height as 55 a half. 4. As much as I want to be all artsy intellectual about it, I cant deny that my favorite movie is Say Anything. Doesnt every girl want a Lloyd Dobler to her Diane Court? Yup, I used a non-boombox pic. Its so not about the boombox. Image via Molly J. 5. (This is harder than it looks!) Ive picked at my nails/cuticles for as long as I can remember. Gross, right? Ive been more more self-conscious about it as Ive grown older, 2010 is so the year Im stopping. Even though it seemed impossible seriously, I had no idea how I was going to stop Ive managed to do a really awesome job of not picking since New Years. I cant say I havent done it at all, but Ive been so much better am really convinced that by this time next year, no gross picking. (Pats self on back). 6. I make really good coffee. For real. I dont know what it is, but I have the magic coffee touch. 7. Im the worst at remembering names. Ill see someone I went to school with for 12 years have no idea what their names are. Ill call my best friend from middle school say, I saw that guy today! With the brown hair! Whats his name? Im hopeless. 8. Dark chocolate. Every time. 9. The only celebrity Ive repeatedly been told that I look like is Mayim Bialik from Blossom. Really, people? Really? Does this look like me? Does it? Wait dont answer that. Image via nge press. 10. Luke I built a soundproof wall over the wall in our living room the week between Christmas and New Years. As a Jewish girl from Long Island, this is handiest/toughest workman-like thing Ive done. After about 24 hours total of hard physical labor (not all at once, thankfully), we have a like-new new wall no longer hear the neighbors pushing the buttons on their video game controller. At least I looked cute doing it! Work flats from Target. That was fun, but way harder than it looks! So glad I get to pick who goes next. According to the rules, I bestow this award on 10 other bloggers who then get to post the same 10 Things (not the same 10 things you know what I mean). Here they are!: Sara of Right Click Office Services Emily of Hello! Self Jen of Follow My Bliss Erin of Leo on the Loose Lindsay of Likely Design Andi of Hit Runners Cassandra of Cassandra Rae Tiffany of Crafty Fanny Carmen of Carmen Torbus Paige of Thats Life! Have fun, ladies!
